Being In the Zone is about being in the right place at the right time and knowing you are in the right place at the right time. It is about those precious moments you experience when all has come about perfectly for you, as on a perfect day when everything goes your way. Yes, those moments where space floats away and time slips through your attention so that for an instant nothing else in the world matters, except, of course, that one beautiful moment of being In the Zone. We've all experienced such delightful moments and sometimes wish they would eternally manifest instead of temporarily entering our consciousness and then moving on, leaving within us a sense of wanting for that next wonderful moment of being In the Zone. Through photography, I started to capture the occurrences of such moments in my life, to follow the theme of wanting and experiencing and, at the end of it all, create a visual scrap book of such experiences I started in 1988 and now twenty years later, after reviewing thousands of images for days and days, I have brought this project to a close with a collection of 500 of the best images that when taken together as a group provide a visual representation of being in the realm of being In the Zone. The span of 20 years, from 1988 to 2008, sets the time period for this work and from places like New Zealand, Costa Rica, Spain, Colombia, Fiji... images of people, places and things come alive due the ability of each photograph to be both singular and plural at the same time; for the ability of each image to stand on its own, without a reference to place nor time, while at the same time be part of a larger body which does refer to place and time, that of being in the right place at the right time. Although photographs for this project were shot using both film and digital cameras, the final distribution of the images is not in the traditional format of photography paper-based prints. In other words, the images in this project are not to exist primaryly in the physical paper world but instead live in the digital world and be seen only through a digital screen. As such, the photographs in In The Zone are available in two digital packages: as iPhone wallpapers and as a PDF eBook.
